Filipinas deserve to have their beauty brought out and developed the best way possible. With this, Filipinas everywhere will be empowered to showcase their looks and character. As the leading provider of hair color in the Philippine salon industry, it is L’Oreal Professionnel’s advocacy to be able to provide all Filipinas the best hair color using the right hair color brand for them and we want to do this through proper consultation and diagnosis. It is our aim to be able to educate hairstylists on the science of proper skin tone diagnosis to give all types of Filipina - mestiza, morena or chinita- the hair color that suit them best.
This is why we launched the Wear Your Color Proud Campaign. Through this initiative, we intend to bring back proper consultation and diagnosis in the salon. The campaign targets to create a discussion between the hairstylists and their clients on what color would go best with any Filipina skin tone. An integral part of this campaign is the Color Consultation Diagnosis Guide and Training to aid both the hairstylists and their clients based on the latter’s skin tone as well as a clear understanding of L’Oreal Professionnel’s color brands for the clients’ preference. With a reliable education tool and guided consultation and diagnosis with the hairstylist, the Filipina client is now given the power to properly choose the hair color that will suit her best, allowing her to have informed control over the hair color she wants to achieve. This collaborative effort will also make the client feel more comfortable over her decision, giving her a boost of confidence and satisfaction.
For this campaign, L’Oreal Professionnel has partnered with the Professional Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP). With a healthy mix of different kinds of Filipinas in its roster of talents, PMAP is the perfect partner to represent the campaign. Just like the “it-girls” of PMAP, any mestiza, morena or chinita can achieve the hair color she wants by working closely with her hairstylist in selecting the right shade that suits and exhibits her skin tone best. To be able to execute this grand partnership in a sensational manner it truly deserves, L’Oreal Professionnel mounted a beauty and fashion shoot with non-other than Photographer Sara Black and Fashion Designer and Project Runway Philippines alumna Milka Quin. Together, the team was able to elegantly express the message the campaign aims to convey – that every Filipina - mestiza, morena or chinita - can now be be prouder by having the most ideal hair color for her.

The Untamed Collection by Harmony Pilobello
Design for giving. This is always the aim of one of my favorite international fashion organizations, The Young Designers Collective. I have blogged about them before here and here. Now, I’m putting the spotlight into one of their amazing designers, Harmony Pilobello.
Harmony Pilobello is a specialist in hand weaving. She pursued a BFA in Fashion design at Parsons School of Design and while there was fortunate enough to meet Professor Timo Rissanen, who was able to guide Harmony through a junior and senior thesis focus in sustainability.
While studying under him, she was able to explore more about zero waste approaches in fashion design, including the Japanese Saori Handweaving technique.
Now, she is using her design background to make one-of-a-kind garments and accessories that involve sourcing materials from small mills like Ardalanish: Isle of Mull Weavers in Scotland or sourcing for dead stock within New York City.
She is aiming to have seasonal collections dedicated to also sourcing from nonprofit organizations that support women especially those who fall under the poverty line, like the Awamaki Organization in Peru.
She had already released her Autumn 2013 collection which consists of stylish garments for men which you can shop at The Young Designers website.
Check out more about Harmony Pilobello and her Autumn 2013 Collection on her website here.
And now I’m so excited to share with you that this month, she is debuting the “Untamed” bridal and evening accessories collection.
The Untamed Collection is inspired by horses and hares roaming free in the wild. An elegant but affordable addition to any bride or bridal party outfit.
All pieces were specially handmade in YDC’s New York Studio and as always, a percentage of each purchase will be donated. This time it will go to the Defenders of Wildlife, an organization that is “dedicated to the protection of all native animals and plants in their natural communities.”
Founded in 1947, they protect and restore imperiled species throughout North America by transforming policies and institutions and promoting innovative solutions.
Check out the stunning pieces from the collection:
- The “Equine Crown”
This will surely make any bride feel regal on her wedding day. This piece is hand braided with humanely sourced horse hair, resin pearls, glass beads, gold plated wire, and rhinestone chain.
This is something that brides would definitely want to be accessorized with on their special day.
Price: $200. $20 will be donated to the Defenders of Wildlife Fund
- The “Tressed Laurel”
This would also be perfect down the aisle. It is beautifully hand braided with humanely sourced horse hair, resin pearls, glass beads, gold plated wire, and rhinestone chain with a 5ft satin bow in back.
Price: $200, $20 will be donated to the Defenders of Wildlife Fund
- The “Woodland Hare”
This is a delicate and whimsical piece created from hand twisted gold plated wire, glass beads, and multifaceted crystals sourced locally.
Price: $275. $25 will be donated to the Defenders of Wildlife Fund.
These pieces are definitely stunning, I would love to have one just so I can add such beautifully made and exquisite pieces in my hair accessory collection. The Equine Crown was just so perfect and the Tressed Laurel and Woodland Hare were lovely that I think they are also perfect for different occasions.
I also love the fact that a big percentage of the proceeds will go to an amazing cause which is the Defenders of Wildlife fund. The YDC never really fails to amaze and impress me with what they do.
I hope you also get to appreciate them because not a lot of fashion designers does some things like what the YDC does.
These items are now available at The Young Designers Collective Shop!
Watch out for more features of The Young Designers different collections and cause on my blog soon!
Vania Romoff x Ensembles: Young Designer Series Holiday 2013
Now on its 5th year, Ensembles is back with another budding fashion designer for its Young Designer Series 2013.
Ensembles is all about the strong and independent woman with a style that’s fashion forward yet elegant. That’s why this year’s collaboration with Vania Romoff is a perfect match. With her designs being predominantly classic and feminine, Vania’s design aesthetic is definitely fit for an Ensembles woman.
I remembered the first time I featured Vania Romoff on my blog and how I was in awe of her designs. They are full of sophistication and class, perfect for women who are confident in who they are. You can read it again here.
About Vania Romoff
Vania Romoff is one of the leading designers of today’s generation which is why it’s no surprise she is this year’s chosen one for Ensembles’ Young Designers Series.
Born and raised in a family of designers and fashion-savvy individuals, the 24 year old Cebuana grew up around fashion. Vania studied Business Entrepreneurship at the Center for International Education in Cebu but learned and developed her fashion skills at School of Fashion of the Arts.
As for her design aesthetic, it’s all about being feminine and classic. “Clean lines, flattering silhouettes and a quiet, yet fresh elegance are consistent in my designs making each piece somehow a modern classic”, Vania said.
Her fashion forward yet timeless creations have garnered continuous praise from the eyes of fashion critics and the rest of the industry, making her one of the most sought after designers, especially with female clientele. Establishing herself as a legitimate designer in Manila is considered by Vania as one of her greatest achievements. “The thought that women trust me with creating pieces for them is an achievement in itself.”
When asked about where she gets inspiration for designing, Vania pointed out that there is no formula for inspiration. “It is taken from everywhere that evokes personal vision or creativeness”, Vania shared.
Among the list of people she admired, she named Inno Sotto and Jun Escario, both renowned Filipino designers, as her icons.
When asked about her collaboration with Ensembles, Vania pointed out that she considered two things. First, the pieces should be wearable and relatable and second, her designs should stay true to her design aesthetic while still reflecting the brand’s persona.
“For my collaboration with Ensembles, I wanted to just go back to the basic silhouettes. All together the collection is fresh yet timeless and lives beyond the season.”
More about the Collection
Her collection is a variety of tops, dresses and jumpsuits featuring easy to wear pieces and key classics that are both functional and chic at the same time. As for the silhouettes, it is a showcase of simplistic lines and basic shapes flattering to a woman’s curves which is one of the highlights of Vania’s design persona.
The collection is also a multitude of different trends and styles such as color blocking, prints and soft drapes presented in mostly subtle colors and neutrals, all capturing a woman’s grace, maturity and charm. A fresh take on vintage was the highlight of the campaign shoot for Vania’s collection, complete with a classic yet fun styling featuring shoes from Janilyn.
Described by Vania herself as a fresh yet timeless collection, her pieces will surely capture the attention of women of all sorts. Whether it is worn in the office, a smart casual affair or on a simple lovely day out, Vania’s pieces will definitely bring out any woman’s confidence and highlight their beauty.
The Young Designer Series 2013 Collection featuring Vania Romoff is set to release in Ensembles stores nationwide this September!

SOLO x Manix Abrera’s Kikomachine Collection
Solo is back with another exciting collection for Pinoy Cartoonist Memorabilia Series! This time Solo celebrates the work of cartoonist Manix Abrera, Kikomachine Komix.
I have always been a fan of Solo ever since, I consider it as one of the best local brand there is. They always come up with unique collections that make me proud of my heritage and this is the best news I heard from Solo so far! I was filled with excitement the moment I read about this next collection of Solo for their Pinoy Cartoonist Memorabilia Series.
Because like how I admired Solo, I’m also a big fan of Kikomachine. I find the humor very relatable since I’m from UP but even if you’re not, the jokes will still definitely tickle you because they are based from most of Filipinos’ daily experiences.
Now, let me tell you more about Kikomachine and its amazing creator, Manix Abrera.
About Manix Abrera
Kikomachine Komix, one of the country’s best selling comic strips to date, has captured the attention of many readers due to its relatable and hilarious presentation of everyday Pinoy experiences.
To be able to gain a huge amount of avid fans with his quirky sense of humor, Manix Abrera is definitely one of the most talented cartoonists in his generation. A graduate of Fine Arts major in Visual Communication in UP Diliman, 31 year old Manix started writing Kikomachine when he was still in 2nd year college back in 2001.
When asked what his main inspiration was behind creating the comics, he said it was from the experiences he had and the scenarios around him during his university life. “Sobrang dami kasing mga nangyayari at mga kwento na sobrang weird at wild, naisip kong pwedeng-pwedeng gawing komiks.”
When he was still little, he loved reading and watching movies, thus the spark of creating stories ignited from him. Since then, he has developed his talent and interest in comic strip making. He even became a part of the Philippine Collegian, UP’s official school publication where he illustrated editorial cartoons and made a comic strip called “Iskololoy”.
Apart from that, one of his biggest inspirations in becoming a comic strip artist was his father and award-winning cartoonist, Jess Abrera Jr. “Malaki yung influence niya talaga sa pag-drawing ko kasi lagi niyang sinasabi na wag ko siya gayahin sa mga drawing niya, maghanap ako ng sarili kong style.”
Apart from creating comics, one of Manix’s main interest is music. In college, he founded a band together with his friends called Kiko Machine, the name where he derived Kikomachine Komix from. He is also into sports and outdoor activities such as diving, swimming, bike riding and climbing mountains.
About Kikomachine Komix
Kikomachine is a comic strip showcasing the everyday life of your typical Pinoy featuring themes that are very common and relatable such as commuting, dating, college life and more.
What makes them hilarious is that they are presented in an exaggerated manner, highlighting Pinoy trademark qualities as it goes along.
As for the 8 main characters, they are a set of odd, lovable characters who are nameless but each with distinctive qualities such as the guy with the spiky hair, the girl with the shaved head, the guy with the glasses and goatee, and so on.
Wondering how they refer to one another in the comic strip? They just simply call each other “pare”, “tsong” or “ano”. When asked why the characters he created are nameless, Manix said that he couldn’t think up of names, so he just left it as it is.
Today, Kikomachine is compiled into 9 books and also appears daily in the comics section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. With his growing fanbase and continuous support from his fans, Manix continues to strive making Filipinos laugh everyday with his talent through Kikomachine.
About the Collection
It’s Solo’s 4th year presenting their Pinoy Cartoonist Memorabilia Series. This time Manix Abrera has joined the wave of well-acclaimed cartoon artists they pay homage to for Solo’s upcoming comic based collection.
Let me show you more of the pieces from the collection, worn by the grand winners of Solo Online Model Search 2012.
Following the success of the first three highly praised collections comes Manix’s Kikomachine, a hilarious comic depicting an average Pinoy’s everyday lifestyle and experiences, featuring a bunch of nameless University kids as main characters.
The collection consists of men and women’s casual wear composing of tees, collared tops and shorts, all decked with graphic images of humorously drawn characters and eccentric comic strip scenes from Kikomachine.
It won’t matter if you’re already an avid reader of Kikomachine or if you’re just starting to get familiar with it because the collection’s prints are eye-catching and fun, definitely something that everyone can enjoy!
Wear them anywhere for that casual, upbeat look and put that Pinoy humor in fashion.
Get set for another whimsical and trendy fashion break as Manix Abrera’s Kikomachine collection is set to hit Solo stores this August!
I won’t definitely miss to shop these! They are so eye-catchy and cool! See you at the stores!
And I have more good news for you from Solo, it’s the time of the year again for Solo’s Online Model Search 2013! Watch out my blog post on how you can join and be the next face of Solo!

Brighten Up Your Day with Freeway Mixed Prints Collection 2013
The rainy season is here! Despite the dark clouds and the cold weather, looking dull and dreary is definitely not an excuse. What we need are pops of fresh colors and prints to brighten up our looks in this not-so-bright weather.
Freeway gives you what you need to brighten up that day and I’m very excited to share it to you!
It’s not always that brands come up with interesting collections that will make you stand out during the rainy season, so this is definitely one to notice and love! Let me walk you through Freeway’s concept for this collection and the lovely pieces you can expect.
Florals are taking over as Freeway brings out a special collection featuring its own exclusive prints exuding the perfect balance of femininity, charm and allure.
Watercolor floral print white three fourth loose top (P1295) and All over floral print shorts (P795)
Watercolor floral print white sleeveless top (P995) and Blue skinny pants (P895)
It consists of tops and dresses featuring simple silhouettes and styles with stunning prints made out of soft, loose and flowy material, all with that comfort stretch component.
The prints are comprised of blossoms with a watercolor and painting effect, seemingly comparable to wearing a beautiful collage of roses, tulips, orchids and more on a canvass.
Watercolor floral print White Shift dress (P1395)
Watercolor floral print navy blue shift dress (P1395)
As for the colors, a mixture of sweet colors such as pink, blue, yellow, red and green are used, very much like the hues you see on a beautiful garden.
As for the footwear, complementing the collection’s soft and feminine theme are lovely shoes from Janylin and Muñiz.
Watercolor floral print sleeveless top (P995), White shorts (P495) and Mustard blazer (P1495)
Watercolor floral print Black Twofer Workdress with belt (P1495)

'For me, Fashion is not just what the latest trends are nor what are the new collections of designers; it's not just what celebrities wear nor what you see girls are wearing on pictures on the web; it's not just what you see and read on fashion magazines nor what you watch in the runway. FASHION IS SIMPLY YOU, your very own sense of style. FASHION IS WHAT'S IN YOUR HEARTS. So, be yourself, wear what you want, be proud and MAKE THE STREETS YOUR RUNWAY.' -YFI ♥
